Fire retardant tents and tarpaulins make camps safer

In 2014, NRS International’s subsidiary NRS Relief has proudly introduced the first-ever fully fire retardant (FR) tents and tarpaulins to the humanitarian community . The essence of FR innovation is to improve safety in refugee camps and prevent loss of properties, injuries and deaths. The introduction of the FR products is considered a significant milestone in the history of the humanitarian sector.

The FR benchmark, which took years of extensive research and development, meets the following international standards:

  • Pass CPAI section 5 and 6 with maximum 10s after flame average and maximum 30s after flame per test piece
  • Ageing under ISO 4892-2, type A, 360 hours.

Winner of Aid Innovation Challenge Award 2014

NRS Relief is proud to have won the prestigious Aid Innovation Challenge Award 2014 (Business Entry) during the annual AidEx Summit in Brussels for its ground-breaking Fire Retardancy solution. NRS Relief hopes that the recognition for this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project inspires other humanitarian suppliers to safeguard the continuous improvement of core relief items.

Jerry Bucket

The all-new, life-saving Jerry Bucket is the result of NRS Relief‘s collaboration with Oxfam’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) team. The design of the 14L bucket has been upgraded so that it serves as a stackable safe water container rather than a multi-purpose bucket. Its new features include a new HDPE lid that is tightly fitted to the body of the bucket through an improved rim lock design, and a larger 100 mm lid opening with a clip-on cap to allow easier cleaning and filling from hand pumps. With the Jerry Bucket innovation, we can now help improve the lives of beneficiaries by combating the alarming incidence of drinking water contamination and associated adverse health effects.

HuggyPRO™

NRS Relief’s HuggyPRO™ tent is the next generation multipurpose tent. It was originally developed as a school or accommodation tent. However, it was used in much more demanding environments, such as a hospital tent during the Ebola crisis, and so we embarked upon an ambitious research programme to address these challenges.

The HuggyPRO product highlights include:

  • Strong light-weight steel frame
  • High-performance laminated, disinfectable PE material
  • Shade net
  • Winter cover
  • Lighting kit.
